Go Red for Women

A few weeks ago our office manager, Teresa, attended the Go Red for Women luncheon event held at the Duke Energy Convention Center. The Go Red for Women event is sponsored by the American Heart Association in an effort to raise awareness of heart disease in women. Since 2004, nearly 500,000 women each year loose their lives to cardiovascular disease. The goal of the movement is to challenge women to know their risk factors and provide them with the tools to live heart healthy lives.

The event included a fashion show of red dresses, created by the fashion design students at the University of Cincinnati. Female survivors of heart disease got to walk to runway, including a 4 year old little girl who had her first surgery at 4 days old! In addition, the women in attendance received free health screenings and enjoyed a little pampering at some of the booths that were set up. The Christ Hospital was also there supporting the cause and have initiated a partnership with local Cincinnati restaurants to provide heart healthy menu options. The American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association have developed the "Life's Simple 7" tips to live a healthier life. They include manage blood pressure, lose weight, normalize blood sugar, stop smoking, eat better, control cholesterol, and get active. For more information on the Go Red for Women movement please visit their website and feel free to ask Teresa about the luncheon at your next visit to the office! Also, you can log on to our Facebook page to view photos from the event.
